10 Unconventional Ways to Boost Your Health While Working From Home

Working from home can be both liberating and challenging. While the freedom to wear pajama pants to your 10am call is real, so is the brain fog, snack temptation, and lack of movement.
The good news? You don’t need to overhaul your life to feel better. These ten gentle, sometimes surprising shifts can help you stay vibrant, energized, and emotionally grounded — no matter what your home office looks like.

I recorded a podcast episode to go along with this post — “Tired & Foggy at Home? Try These Real-Life Wellness Shifts.”
In it, I share my personal experience with these tips, how I use them in my own rhythm, and why some of them surprised me too.

1. Start Your Day with Essential Oils

One unconventional but powerful way to begin your day is by incorporating essential oils into your morning rhythm. A few deep inhales can offer a mini reset — helping you wake up your senses, anchor your mood, or simply make your space feel more intentional.
Scent is a direct line to the brain’s emotional center. And when you start your day feeling clear and calm, it tends to ripple out into everything else. (Link: Why Essential Oils here)

2. Take Cold Showers for a Natural Jolt

If you're looking for a fast and invigorating energy boost, try a cold shower. Yes — it might make you gasp — but that’s kind of the point!
Cold water helps increase circulation, awaken your nervous system, and shake off mental cobwebs. Even just 30 seconds at the end of your shower can give you a clean slate feeling — perfect before you dive into work. 3. Try Gua Sha to Get Things Flowing

Prefer gentle over shocking? Gua Sha is a soothing way to wake up your face and body.
This traditional practice uses a smooth tool to glide over your skin, encouraging lymphatic drainage and blood flow. A quick morning Gua Sha session can reduce puffiness, increase circulation, and help you feel more refreshed before that first video call. (Link: Video about Gua Sha Or Meet Gua Sha on the YL Blog)

4. Infuse Your Water (and Drink More of It)

Hydration often gets overlooked in the rush of remote work. But staying hydrated supports every system in your body — from brain clarity to skin glow.
Add slices of fruit, herbs, or a drop of a safe-to-ingest essential oil to your water bottle for extra flavor and benefits. Think: cucumber + mint, or lemon + basil. Bonus: pretty water = more likely to drink.

5. Stretch or Do Yoga Breaks

One perk of working from home? No one’s judging your downward dog between emails.
Build in micro-movements like stretching, light yoga, or even five squats after each task. This keeps energy moving and tension from building up in your neck, back, and hips.
Even 3-5 minutes at a time makes a difference. You’re home — use that freedom.

6. Move During Meetings

Stuck in back-to-back calls? Turn some of them into walk-and-talks. Or, try low-impact movement during video meetings where you don’t need to be on screen.
March in place, stretch your arms, or stand instead of sit. Movement breaks up stagnation and helps keep your focus sharp (and your body happier).

7. Eat Meals That Nourish (Not Just Snacks That Soothe)

When your kitchen is just steps away, the snack temptation is real. But constant grazing often leads to energy crashes.
Instead, plan simple, satisfying meals that balance protein, fiber, and healthy fats. This keeps your blood sugar stable and your brain firing cleanly. If you are a snacker, get curious — is it hunger, emotion, or habit?
Awareness first. Then nourishment.

8. Get Sunlight and Fresh Air Daily

Don’t underestimate the power of stepping outside. Fresh air clears your mind. Natural light supports your circadian rhythm. Even 10 minutes can shift your entire mood.
Can’t go far? Open a window. Sit on a balcony. Let your skin and lungs breathe a little.

9. Practice Mindfulness with an Emotional Check-In

When working from home, it’s easy to get swept up in tasks, distractions, and emotional undercurrents you didn’t even realize were running the show. This is where a moment of intentional pause can shift everything.
Rather than traditional meditation, I often recommend a more emotionally supportive check-in — using either an Aroma Reset or an Aroma Boost, depending on what you're experiencing.

Both approaches are powerful and effective tools to gently help you come back to center, release what’s weighing you down, and reconnect with clarity and calm. These are simple, yet deeply supportive practices that can be done in just a few minutes — even between meetings or before writing that email you’re dreading.
Because let’s be real: working from home doesn’t mean life slows down. But having an emotional pause button in your back pocket? That’s a game changer.
You don’t need perfection. You need a rhythm that honors how you feel and helps you shift gently into how you want to feel.
Emotional clarity is energy. And energy — especially the grounded kind — makes everything flow better.

10. Let Go of Guilt and Redefine Productivity

Finally, remember: your productivity does not define your worth.
It’s easy to feel guilty when you’re not "doing enough." But wellness isn’t found in squeezing more into the day — it’s found in aligning with what matters.
Take breaks without apology. Rest without justification. Create rhythms that feel good instead of chasing hustle.
You’re not a machine. You’re a vibrant woman building a beautiful, self-led life.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need a complete lifestyle makeover to feel better at home. You just need a few aligned shifts that work with your body, your environment, and your energy.
