Nourishing Your Skin Through Seasonal Changes

Even though September doesn’t bring crunchy leaves or crisp air here in Panama, it still brings a shift — more humidity, more ceiling fan time, and lots of air conditioning. And your skin feels it.

Whether you notice dryness on your cheeks, more oil on your T-zone, or just a general “blah” look, seasonal transitions are the perfect time to check in and show your skin some love. Here’s how to keep it happy and glowing this month — naturally.

1. Understand What’s Happening to Your Skin

Humidity, AC, and fans all play a role. Air conditioning pulls moisture out of the air (and out of your skin). Ceiling fans keep air moving, which speeds up evaporation from your skin’s surface. Add higher humidity and sweat, and your skin might overproduce oil to compensate — leading to congestion or breakouts.

So, the goal is simple: balance. We want to keep the skin barrier strong, hydrated, and able to protect you.

2. Hydrate Inside and Out

It starts with what you sip. Drink water steadily throughout the day and add a pinch of sea salt or an electrolyte mix to help your cells actually use it. Coconut water is a tropical bonus — hydrating and delicious.

For the outside, focus on water-based hydration first (like a light mist or toner) and then seal it in with a nourishing moisturizer. Think of it as giving your skin a drink and then putting a lid on the glass so it doesn’t evaporate.

3. Switch to a Gentle Cleanser

If you’re using a foaming cleanser that leaves your skin squeaky, try swapping to a cream or gel-based cleanser that supports your skin barrier. Over-cleansing can make your skin produce even more oil — and nobody needs that this time of year.

4. Exfoliate Smartly

Fans and AC can lead to build-up of dead skin cells, which makes your skin look dull. Gentle exfoliation once or twice a week (think enzymes or very fine scrubs) keeps everything smooth and helps your other products work better.

5. Support Your Skin Barrier

Look for plant oils, aloe, and gentle botanical ingredients that calm and strengthen. Your skin barrier is your first line of defense — treat it kindly so it can keep irritants out and moisture in.

6. Don’t Forget the Air Around You

Run a humidifier or simply keep a bowl of water near your desk if the air feels dry from AC. Diffusing gentle essential oils can support hydration in the air and create a calming environment at the same time.

7. Nourish From Within

Healthy fats — avocado, coconut, olive oil, and omega-rich seeds — give your skin what it needs to stay plump and resilient. Bonus: they help keep hormones balanced, which means fewer breakouts during transitions.
